KARAKURI

Karakuri is a type of mechanical „automation“ that originated in Japan in the 17th to 19th centuries. Initially, most applications were developed for amusement purposes, for example for serving tea or at puppet shows.

Karakuri has been a central component of the Lean philosophy for years and describes the simple but clever automation of processes based on physical principles – without complex drives, sensors, electrics or pneumatics. The existing means are to be used, i.e. existing equipment and components and also the creativity of the employees. Karakuri is often referred to as Low Cost Automation.
